Ivana Matovina is a graduate of the joint degree/diploma program between York University and Canada’s National Ballet School, where she completed her teaching qualifications.
Alongside her academic pursuits, Ivana performed with the York Dance Ensemble, Sashar Zarif Dance Theater, and rad (random acts of dance). In 2006 she toured to Montreal, Canada and Dusseldorf, Germany performing Sashar Zarif’s full length work Meeting with Saghi.
After a year of teaching the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, jazz, and creative dance to students at the International Dance Academy in Tokyo, Japan, Ivana returned to Canada to pursue further dance training and teaching endeavours.
In Vancouver, she has successfully entered three consecutive sets of students into Cecchetti examinations while performing as an independent contemporary dance artist around the city. From toddlers to adults, Ivana finds teaching highly enjoyable and rewarding. She believes in creating a positive classroom environment that merges discipline with play. Her students learn to fully express their individuality while advancing their technical abilities. Ivana looks forward to sharing her passion for dance with the students of Maple Leaf Ballet.
