Maple Leaf School of Russian Ballet’s Summer Intensive 2017 is the perfect opportunity to advance the technical and artistic needs of dance students to the next level.
Maple Leaf School of Russian Ballet's Summer Intensive Program is a challenging and demanding, full-time training program which focuses on improving technique and artistry in ballet while exploring different aspects of dance. The Program starts on Monday, July 3rd and concludes with the "Celebration" performance on Saturday, July 29th.
The Summer Intensive is offered through two levels: the Junior program for students ages 11 to 13, and the Senior program for students ages 14 and older. Classes will include, but are not limited to, Ballet technique - including Vaganova technique, Classical Repertoire, Variations, Character, Pas de Deux, Body Conditioning, Contemporary, and choreographic workshop where Modern (Graham) and ballet techniques are used for creating unique pieces of choreography. Students may also be grouped by ability, experience and potential within the two levels. Classes offered will vary by age and ability.
Students attend classes Monday through Friday for the four weeks from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, and a half day on Saturdays from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.
Classes are taught by Maple Leaf School of Russian Ballet’s Faculty, including our Artistic Director, Mr. David C. Beales, and special guest instructors (please see below).
We welcome all students wishing to take the next step to advance their potential as a dancer! However, placement into the Summer Intensive Program is by live audition at one of the audition sessions or by video submission. Please refer to the audition page for more information for the audition date near your area.
Students who are accepted into and attend the 2017 Summer Intensive Program, may be extended an invitation to join the Professional Development Program, which is Maple Leaf School of Ballet's full year professional development program.

Deposits and fees due on Registration:
1. A $300 deposit is required after acceptance in the program. For international students, please contact us for wire-transfer information.
2. The remaining amount is due one week before the first day of classes. Please note that deposits are non-refundable, as when you register for the program a space is held in reserve for you.
Céline Gittens is the Principal Dancer of the Birmingham Royal Ballet. She joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2006. She was born in Trinidad and grew up in Vancouver, Canada, where her training, both with her mother and at Vancouver’s Goh Ballet Academy, led to her winning the gold medal and audience choice award at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance Genée International Ballet Competition in 2005.
Céline is a dancer of immense strength, as seen to such strong effect in performances as the Striptease Girl in Balanchine’s Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, Fortuna in Carmina burana and the leading role in Elite Syncopations. Having spent all her professional life with a British company, however, Céline has developed a more understated side to her performances which is standing her in good stead for the classics. She debuted the dual roles of Odette / Odile in Swan Lake in 2012. Other leading roles which are garnering her acclaim include the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, Swanilda in Coppélia, the Gypsy Girl in The Two Pigeons and most recently a very demure and youthful Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. Celine also gained an MPhil from the University of Birmingham in 2012.
Celine is the recipient of the following awards: RAD Solo Seal, 2004; gold Medal and Audience Award, Adeline Genée Awards, 2005; finalist, Prix de Lausanne, 2006.
Kit Holder is a a soloist with Birmingham Royal Ballet. Born in Leamington Spa, Kit trained with Audrey Roper in Sutton Coldfield and at the Royal Ballet School. He joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2000 and was promoted to First Artist in 2008 and Soloist in 2014.
Kit is also a choreographer based in the UK. His work is rooted in the Classical Ballet tradition and seeks to engage with contemporary society and thought. He has collaborated with composers working in a range of genres including orchestral, electronica and contemporary jazz.
As a dancer he has danced in works by many of the worlds leading choreographers including Sir Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, David Bintley, Kim Brandstrup, John Cranko, Joe Layton, Dame Gillian Lynne, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Hans Van Manen Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Dame Ninette De Valois and Sir Peter Wright.
Erika Pirl is an artist with her main background in dance and movement research. She is currently based in Switzerland where she is working with both the visual art field and the dance field. Her practice tries to make the bridge between the two artistic languages stronger.
Erika started dancing from a young age in her home town of Tehuacan, Pue, México, and has since worked with different Choreographers, Companies, and personal or collective projects between the fields of Contemporary Dance and those of Visual Art in Europe, North America and Latin America.
In her personal practice she likes to explore the notions of collective memory and personal memory. She is also curious about how we learn things, how we teach things or pass them down. Hence she explores educational patterns, as well as ritual and tradition patterns. Looking at these things from the point of view of her personal subjective background which comes from movement and corporal work, to look at how the body can be affected by or affect our perception of places, space, history, and traditions.
Sarah Yeung Po Ting was born in Hong Kong, and started her ballet training at the Jean M. Wong School of Ballet. While she trained there, she received the Dame Margot Fonteyn Award 2005-07 from the Tsinforn C. Wong Memorial Scholarship to attend the Hamburg Ballet School in Germany. After dancing with Dresden Semper Opera Ballet, Germany, and Dutch National Ballet, Holland, she returned to Hong Kong to complete further study at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She joined The Hong Kong Ballet as an apprentice in 2010, and was engaged as a member of the Corps de Ballet in 2011.
Sarah danced in major roles including Mercedes, friends and Bolero in Don Quixote by Nina Anaiashvili, Spanish Doll in Nutcracker by Terence Kohler, Tall Girl in Light and Shadow by Krzysztof Pastor and Ancestor pas de deux in Torandotby Natalie Weir. She had the opportunity to work with many choreographers which created roles on her, including those in Jorma Elo’s Shape of Glow, Peter Quanz’ Luminous, Kinsun Chan’s Black on Black, Li Jun’s Dance with the Wind. She was also featured in different roles in Rubies, Serenade, Suite en blanc, Coppélia, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Paquita.
Sarah has won several awards, including the Gold Medal at the Shenzhen International Dance Competition in 2005, 2nd place in the 2004 South China Morning Post Best Dancer of the Year Award, and Gold and Silver medals at the 4th Hong Kong Youth Ballet Stars Award in 2004.
Lauren Richter Henry began her ballet training in 1996 in Orange County. In 2006, she moved to New York City to continue her training at ABT's Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and worked privately with Prima Ballerina Assouluta Eva Evdokimova. During this time, Lauren was awarded a scholarship through Youth American Grand Prix to continue her studies in Monte-Carlo at the Princess Grace Academy of Classical Dance under the direction of Marika Besobrasova. After spending two years there, Lauren received her first professional contract with the Prague State Opera Ballet in the Czech Republic and then went on to dance with the Bucharest National Ballet in Romania. Lauren has competed in several competitions both nationally and internationally including LA Music Center’s Spotlight Awards, Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Stars of Tomorrow, Youth American Grand Prix, and Prague International Ballet Competition. During her professional career, Lauren’s repertoire included roles in such classics as Giselle, La Bayadere, La Corsaire, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and George Balanchine’s Serenade. Lauren is certified in levels 1-8 through the Bolshoi Ballet Academy Teacher Training Program. She is also a member of the International Dance Council CID at UNESCO, the official world-wide organization for dance. In addition to ballet, Lauren is a certified Pilates instructor with a dance specialization through BASI Pilates. Lauren has taught in several schools throughout Orange County as well as in some of the orphanages in Romania. Dance is truly her passion and she loves to be able to share that passion with others.
Kostyantyn Keshyshev started dancing in 2002 at the Odessa Ballet Academy in his hometown in Ukraine. In 2005, he moved to Vancouver and continued his training at the Goh Ballet Academy where he received numerous scholarships, including The Hnatyshyn Foundation Grant.
In 2007, Kostyantyn participated in The Genée International Ballet Competition and was awarded the Silver Medal. The same year, he joined the Hong Kong Ballet where he took on the leading roles of Prince Siegfried (Swan Lake), Albrecht (Giselle), Nutcracker (The Nutcracker), Count Danilo Danilovitsch (Merry Widow), Prince Desire (The Sleeping Beauty) and Prince Charming (Cinderella). Kostyantyn also had the opportunity to work with choreographers Nacho Duato, Peter Quanz, Stanton Welch and many more as well as perform in works like Castrati, Steptext, Clear, Luminous, Serenade and Allegro Brillante. Kostyantyn left the Hong Kong Ballet as Soloist in 2015 and joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet that same year.
